Mumbai: After pacer Deepak Chahar experienced health issues, all-rounder Washington Sundar has been called to replace him in the two remaining ODI's against South Africa, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced on Saturday, NDTV reported.
Chahar experienced stiffness in his back after the final T20I against SA, demanding rest. He will report at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru, and the medical team will take care of him, BCCI said. The pacer wasn't in the playing 11 in the first ODI against SA.
Chahar is included in the standby list of the squad for the 2022 T20I World Cup.
Injured Jasprit Bumrah was ruled out of the tournament against SA, and Chahar took his place in the main squad. Further, Covid-19 had caused Mohammed Shami to be withdrawn from the squad too.
The ODI series against SA will end on Tuesday after the second ODI scheduled on Sunday.
India lost the first ODI against SA after the latter put a target of 250 from 40 overs. Sanju Samson and Shreyas Iyer scored half-tons for Men-in-Blue, but couldn't rescue the team after the main batting line-up fell like a house of cards. Visitors SA have the lead in the series 1-0.
When Chahar warmed the benches, Shardul Thakur, Avesh Khan and Mohamed Siraj took SA with their pace attack.
