Chennai gears up for historic night race at the Indian Racing Festival

India is set to make sporting history as the streets of Chennai come alive with the roar of formula cars during Round 2 of the Indian Racing Festival, presented by Kingfisher Soda.

This groundbreaking event will take place on the iconic stretch of Island Grounds, where more than 40 drivers will compete in a thrilling street circuit race. The unique night race is set to establish a new standard for motorsport in India, with its exhilarating energy and challenging layout promising an unforgettable experience.

On Saturday, drivers walked the 3.5 km street circuit before taking to the track to familiarize themselves with its technical bends and fast lanes. The drivers were unanimous in their praise of the circuit, recognizing the unique challenges it presents.

Akhilesh Reddy, Chairman and Managing Director of Racing Promotions Private Limited, the event's organizers, expressed his gratitude to the Tamil Nadu Government for their crucial support in ensuring the safety and security of the circuit. "We are thrilled to be making history on the streets of Chennai this Sunday," Reddy said.

For many of the drivers, this will be their first-ever night race. Saturday's practice sessions provided a valuable opportunity to adapt to the unique conditions of the track, including managing wind direction and tire wear. Spectators eagerly cheered the drivers as they navigated the circuit, adding to the electric atmosphere.

The 2024 Indian Racing Festival has been bolstered by the involvement of key sponsors like JK Tyre, Kingfisher Soda, and Mobil 1. JK Tyre, in particular, has played a significant role in enhancing the competitive edge across all categories, including the JK Tyre-FMSCI National Racing Championship, ensuring a series of high-octane races that have captivated fans throughout the event.
