Asian Games: Suruchi-Kamaljeet fires Asian record to win gold

Nagoya: Indian shooters Suruchi Inder Singh and Kamaljeet delivered a record-breaking performance to clinch gold in the 10m Air Pistol Mixed Team event at the Asian Games, giving India another major medal in shooting. The duo finished the final with 484.6 points, setting a new Asian record.

Suruchi and Kamaljeet maintained their composure through the high-pressure final and held off the Republic of Korea pair of Hong Suhyeon and Choo Gaeun, who settled for silver with 478.0 points. Iran's Haniyeh Rostamiyan and Vahid Golkhandan took bronze with a score of 415.8, while Indonesia finished fourth.

The Indian pair had already announced their form in the qualification round, topping the field with 587 points and 29 inner 10s. Their tally equalled the existing Asian qualification record, previously set by Saurabh Chaudhary and Manu Bhaker in 2021.

India also secured another medal in table tennis as Manush Shah and Diya Chitale stunned Hong Kong's world No. 4 pair Wong Chun-Ting and Doo Hoi Kem 3-1 in the mixed doubles quarterfinals. Their victory assured India a medal, with the duo set to face China's Wang Chuqin and Sun Yingsha in the semifinal.

In squash, Joshna Chinappa and Velavan Senthilkumar reached the mixed doubles semifinals after defeating the Philippines' Jemyca Aribado and David Pelino 2-0, assuring India at least a bronze medal.

Meanwhile, Indian swimmers Rishabh Das, Utkarsh Patil and veteran Sajan Prakash advanced to their respective finals in the men's 200m backstroke and 200m butterfly. Aneesh Sunil and Dhakshan Shashikumar missed the 400m freestyle final.
