Asian Games 2026: India beat Bangladesh 3-0 to reach badminton quarterfinals

India advanced to the men's badminton team event quarterfinals at the Asian Games 2026 after defeating Bangladesh 3-0 on Monday, with Lakshya Sen, Ayush Shetty and Kidambi Srikanth winning their singles matches.

Lakshya gave India a winning start, beating Ayman Ibn Jaman 21-4, 21-12.

Ayush then defeated Gourab Singha 21-4, 21-13 to extend India's lead.

With India needing one more victory to seal the tie, Srikanth beat Al Amin Jumar 21-15, 21-9 to complete the 3-0 win. The doubles matches were not required.

India are likely to face Japan in the quarterfinals.

The victory came during a strong day for India at the Asian Games, with the country also securing medals and wins across several disciplines.

In shooting, Himanshu Dhillon won silver and Rudrankksh Patil won bronze in the men's 10m air rifle individual final. Dhillon, Patil and Parth Mane had earlier won silver in the team event.

India's women's hockey team defeated Indonesia 17-1, while the men's kabaddi team beat Japan 49-23. In boxing, Sumit defeated Bunjong Sinsiri in the men's 70kg Round of 32, and India's women's table tennis team beat Pakistan 3-0.

In mixed martial arts, Suchika Tariyal won bronze in the women's traditional 60kg category. In swimming, Srihari Nataraj qualified for the men's 50m backstroke final.

In other events, India's soft tennis pair Aadhya Tiwari and Jay Meena recorded wins before exiting in the Round of 16. Nyeman Wangsu finished 15th in the women's Changquan final, while India's men's Sepaktakraw team lost to Japan. India also had several shooters competing in the skeet qualification events.
