Jakarta: India won a massive win 16-0 over hosts Indonesia in the Asia Cup Hockey 2022 men's in the final Pool A match at the GBK Sports Complex Hockey Stadium here on Thursday and moved into the Super 4s stage on Thursday.
India was in need of a win with 15 goal margin to qualify for the Super 4s, and the youth squad won the same for her.
Dips Tirkerkey successfully hit the target four times (42', 47', 59', 59') fro India while Sudev Belimagga (45', 46', 55') scored a hattrick. Further, Pawan Rajbhar (10', 11), SV Sunil (19', 24'), and Karthi Selvam (40', 56') each shook the goal post nets twice while Uttam Singh (14'), Nilam Sanjeep Xess (20') and Birendra Lakra (41') score one goal each to take the team to a mammoth score.
India was aggressive even from the start, which showed their solid intentions to get a big win. Though India squandered a chance to score in the 7th minute, they finished the first quarter with three goals. Before halftime, the score reached 6-0 too.
In the third quarter, Indonesian goalkeeper Alam Fajar put more effort into his position. But his effort got blasted in the 40th minute by Karthy Selvam, and Indonesia conceded three more goals before the end of the third quarter.
The last quarter saw the Indian squad raining goals into the Indonesian post. While Dipsan Tirkey scored thrice, Sudev Belimagga scored a brace, Selvam Karthi scored one more, and India sealed the game with a 16-0 win.
India will play their first Super4s game against Japan on Saturday.
Meanwhile, Pakistan lost to Japan in their last Pool A match 2-3.
