‘No one can hide from it’: Isro to launch Anvesha satellite on PSLV-C62

New Delhi: The Indian Space Research Organisation (Isro) is getting ready to launch a satellite that can redefine battlefields, thanks to being ‘a secret weapon for militaries’, India Today reported.

The EOS-N1 Anvesha satellite, a hyperspectral remote sensing (HRS) developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), is to be launched aboard the PSLV-C62 mission on January 12.

Alongside having a strategic edge, it will help launch quick response to disasters and aid mitigation.

HRS is a real game-changer as it can turn what the report said ‘ordinary satellite photos into a high-tech detective tool’.

Unlike aerial photos so far used to study landscapes, where shapes, colours, and patterns to guess at what was below, the new system will capture ‘hundreds of super-narrow slices of light across the rainbow’ alongside even those humans can’t see.

It will be like using a scanner that can distinguish between different types of soil, plant or even human-made materials from their glow.

It is all about precise identifications not rough guesses, all automated by smart software.

Though it is referred to as a ‘secret weapon’, HRS is not a device for destruction but it is all about smart planning.

It can contribute to battlefield greatly for example as it can identify different soil type, which will help predict paths safe for troop movement avoiding tanks getting stuck in sticky clay or marsh.

It can help spot hidden dangers by detecting fake coverings, and camouflage among others.
