New Delhi: From its inception in 2009 to being acquired by Facebook for $19 billion in 2014, WhatsApp certainly has come a long way.
Last year, the company announced that it had reached the landmark figure of 1 billion monthly active users. Now, the instant messaging app claims that it has touched the magical figure of 1 billion users per day.
"Just last year, we shared that one billion people around the world use WhatsApp every month. Today, we are excited and proud to share that one billion people around the world use WhatsApp every day to stay in touch with their family and friends," said the company blog post.
The Facebook-owned company further said that it is committed to deliver more features in future and making the app more reliable, simple and secure. WhatsApp also shared other statistics. The company has touched 1.3bn monthly active users and witnesses around 55 billion messages set by users every day. Furthermore, WhatsApp users share almost 4.5 billion images and 1 billion videos every day.
WhatsApp, in order to increase its user count, is reportedly working on another app. This app will supposedly target business enterprises.
As mentioned by the WaBetaInfo website, this new app for small and medium businesses will be available for Android, iOS and Windows 10 Mobile platforms. Business enterprises will be able to communicate with their customers and vice-versa using the app.
In the app, WhatsApp will verify the companies and while creating a business account, the companies will not be able to change the name but only the profile pictures. The companies will also have their own PSA accounts, where both businesses and customers will be informed about the important changes in the app.
If true, this could bring several million more users on board. What could add to those daily active user numbers are the upcoming features WhatsApp is testing in its beta version across different OS platforms.
