Washington: A new legislative document by a US federal panel criticizes CAA calling it as part of an effort to create religious test for citizenship.
The United States Commission on International Religious Freedom (USCIRF) said that protests erupted across India following the passage of CAA.
USCIRF also reportedly said that as the protest broke out, the government instituted a violent crackdown against protesters, according to a report by news agency ANI.
