New Delhi: CPM general Secretary Sitaram Yechury can now travel to Kashmir to meet his detained party leader Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami.
The Supreme Court bench consisting of CJI Ranjan Gogoi, justice S A Bobde and Abdul Nazeer on Wednesday observed that citizens must be allowed to have access to Jammu and Kashmir.
Meanwhile, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta countered the plea saying that the visit could give rise to political unrest. The bench however said that the visit must not be used for political purpose.
Yechury challenged the detention of four-time CPM lawmaker of J&K assembly and filed the habeas petition.
Tarigami was reportedly detained on August 5 just as the government revoked the special status to the state.
