Mumbai: The accused in the Mumbai BMW hit-and-run case reportedly used a fake identity card to get entry into a pub before his speeding car killed a woman pillion riding a two-wheeler in the city.
Mihir Shah, aged 23, who was arrested on Wednesday following a three-day search, falsified his age as 27 to enter the pub, while the minimum drinking age is 25, NDTV reported.
The pub’s management reportedly testified to this fact claiming that Shah earned entry with an identity card that marked his age as 27 years.
Three of his friends who accompanied him to the pub are over 30 years old.
Meanwhile, the Mumbai civic agency yesterday knocked down a portion of the pub that was illegally built.
Shah, the son of sacked Shiv Sena leader Rajesh Shah, rammed the scooty on which Kaveri Nakva and her husband Pradik Nakva were returning around 5.30 am on Sunday after buying fish to sell during the day.
The CCTV footage showed, according to police, Shah’s speeding BMW dragging the woman stuck on the bonnet for 1.5 km before he stopped the car and exchanged seats with his driver.
Afterwards he removed the woman’s body from under the engine bay and the bumper and abandoned it on the road, just as the driver reversed the car, this time running over the body before disappeared from the scene. Police accused Shah’s friends of having involved in trying to destroy evidence.
It is reported that the BMW's number plate was removed after the accident, the police said.
It is also revealed that following the crash, Shah Mihir Shah spoke to his girlfriend over phone 40 times before abandoning the car, heading to her house in an auto. Police said the girlfriend is likely to be detained for questioning.
