Modi has a bad habit of taking credit for what he doesn't deserve: Swamy

New Delhi: Narendra Modi has no role in the fight against the Emergency imposed by the Indira Gandhi government in 1975, senior BJP leader and former Rajya Sabha MP Subramanian Swamy slammed on Tuesday. He added that Modi has a tendency to take credit when he does not deserve it, The Free Press Journal reported.

Swamy wrote in an X post, "Modi played no role fighting against the Emergency. He was a RSS Pracharak in Gujarat where there was for most part no Emergency due to the Gujarat Govt of Janata Morcha headed by Babubhai. Modi has a bad habit of trying to grab credit when none is due to him."

Earlier on Tuesday, PM Modi praised all the men and women who had resisted the Emergency. He attacked the Congress via a social media post, saying, "subverted basic freedoms and trampled over the Constitution of India which every Indian respects greatly."

Modi used the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Emergency imposed by the Indira Gandhi administration on June 25th 1975, to attack Congress.

He also said in another post, "Just to cling on to power, the then Congress Government disregarded every democratic principle and made the nation into a jail. Any person who disagreed with the Congress was tortured and harassed. Socially regressive policies were unleashed to target the weakest sections."

It seems Subramanian Swamy is all hands against Modi in recent times. Yesterday also, he criticized the Prime Minister for rising unemployement in the country.

"Who cares who won? The nation's losers are the youth (who despite a globe trotting PM who is without a party majority in Parliament), who are unemployed or semi employed I.e., in jobs well below their education. How heart breaking and dream destroying it must be for them," he wrote on X yesterday.

Earlier this month, Swamy said that it was Modi's dictatorial mindset that pulled BJP down. He lashed out at the party for its lacklustre performance in the general elections. Following Modi's taking office for a third term as PM, Swamy criticized him for forming a government, allying with TDP and JD(U). He said that the coalition was the biggest mistake of Modi's life.
