Mohamad Safa, a representative of the Patriotic Vision Organisation at the United Nations, has resigned from his position, alleging that the UN is preparing for a possible use of nuclear weapons in Iran.
Safa announced his decision in a post on X and an accompanying letter. He said he had suspended all his duties after concluding that some senior UN officials were serving “a powerful lobby” rather than the organisation itself.
“I don't think people understand the gravity of the situation as the UN is preparing for possible nuclear weapon use in Iran,” Safa wrote. He described Tehran as a city of nearly 10 million people and warned against treating it as an abstract military target.
Safa said he had given up his diplomatic career to reveal what he described as preparations for a potential nuclear strike. He said he could no longer remain “part of or a witness to this crime against humanity”.
He also referred to anti-war protests in the United States and urged people to “act now” and oppose any possible escalation.
In his letter, Safa said he had wanted to resign since 2023. He accused some UN officials of refusing to criticise the United States and Israel over conflicts in Gaza, Lebanon, and Iran. He also said he faced criticism, censorship, and death threats after voicing concerns following the Hamas attack on Israel in October 2023.
The United Nations has not publicly responded to Safa’s allegations.
