The United Arab Emirates has topped the world in Covid vaccination rate, shows the latest stats of Our World in Data (OWID), a scientific online publication initiated by an England and Wales based NGO Global Change Data Lab. The data indicates that the number of doses administered stood at a rate of 147.9 doses per 100 people in the total population of the UAE, as per Wednesday's updates.
Israel was ranked second with 123.15 doses per 100 people, followed by Bahrain at 115.67 doses and the United Kingdom at 109.95 doses per 100 inhabitants. The United States of America has administered vaccines at a rate of 95.45 doses per 100 inhabitants while the global average for countries is 35.23 doses per 100 people.
According to the UAE's National Emergency, Crisis and Disaster Management Authority, the total doses of vaccine given in the country so far have reached 14,631,482 doses, while the number of COVID tests has increased to 55 million, 802,956 nationwide.
International experts said the decline in COVID infections in most countries of the world is attributed primarily to vaccines. At least 22 per cent of the world's population have received a minimum jab e dose of the Covid vaccine. Around 2.8 billion doses were given globally at an average rate of 40 million doses per day. However, only 0.9 per cent of people in low-income countries received at least one dose, as well as adherence to preventive measures.
Despite the significant rise in the number of covid-related deaths worldwide since the advent of the pandemic last year resulted in 3.9 million deaths, the recovering rate in major countries of the world has also increased. Out of 179.9 million infected cases, the number of recoveries reached 164.7 million cases, according to the latest global statistics. This led to a decrease in the cumulative infection rate to less than 15 million cases of infection spread across the world, including 222 countries, provinces and islands.
