UAE dispatches plane carrying medical, food aid to Afghanistan

The United Arab Emirates sent a plane carrying "urgent medical and food aid" to Afghanistan on Friday, the state-run news agency WAM said, nearly three weeks after the Taliban's takeover.

The foreign ministry of UAE affirmed to state media that they are the first (Emirati) flight to lend relief materials after the current happenings in Afghanistan.

The "assistance comes within the framework of the humanitarian role being played by the UAE to provide full support to brotherly Afghan people in such current circumstances," said an official.

The UAE has also agreed to take in 5,000 Afghan refugees fleeing the Taliban-run Afghanistan, hosting them temporarily in Abu Dhabi in specially constructed housing units.

Taliban's celebratory gunfire was sounded in whole Afghan on Tuesday when the last US force left Kabul.

The United States invaded Afghanistan and the fall of Taliban regime two decades ago in the wake of 9/11 attacks led by Al- Queda. Afghanistan seems to be a nightmare for western countries, expects to be a shelter for extremists and sets to attack them again.

Among gulf countries like Qatar, Kuwait and Bahrain, UAE too has a major part in ensuring evacuation flights for foreigners and Afghans.
