Thumbay Group celebrates silver jubilee

The land of UAE has witnessed the success stories of many entrepreneurs. One such initiative is Thumbay Group, which is completing 25 years in the healthcare and education sectors in the UAE through legendary interventions. The group is notable for its achievements in hospitality business sectors such as medical education, healthcare, research, laboratory services, pharmacy, health clubs, coffee shops, optical shops, and flower shops. With more than 110 touchpoints across seven emirates and tie-ups with more than 70 organisations worldwide, Thumbay Group is an active presence in the Emirate today.

In 1997, the group founder Dr. Thumbay Moideen met with a turning point in the legendary business journey as an entrepreneur. Capitalising on his determination and thinking power, he established the Thumbay Group in UAE. The first venture 'Gulf Medical University' is today the largest and number one private medical university in the health sector. The university has 29 accredited undergraduate and graduate programs overseen by six colleges specialising in various disciplines such as medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, nursing, biomedical sciences, healthcare management, and economics.

Three important institutes namely Thumbay Research Institute for Precision Medicine, Thumbay Institute of Population Health, and Thumbay Institute of Health Workforce Development are affiliated with 'Gulf Medical University'. These institutes have enhanced the training, research, and academic expertise of Gulf Medical University.

More than 3,500 students have graduated from the university. This will include 60 per cent of the healthcare workforce and 20 per cent of doctors graduating each year in the UAE. The group's healthcare division - comprising hospitals, clinics, and daycare facilities - treats and examines more than 10 million patients, performs more than 70,000 maternity services and serves patients from 175 different countries.

Affiliated with Gulf Medical University creates an academic environment within the hospitals. Many of the doctors at Thumbay Hospitals are university professors.

New plans for the future

Dr. Thumbay Moideen highlights innovation as the driving force behind the success of the group. It is shaped by a commitment to innovation, excellence in healthcare and education, and a strong focus on serving the community. Government encouragement has played a crucial role in the growth of the group. In the next 25 years, the group aims to achieve historic milestones and provide better service to the society.

To mark the Silver Jubilee, Thumbay Group Founder and President Dr. Tumbai Moideen has made it clear. In addition, the healthcare business is expected to double with the soon-to-be-implemented compulsory insurance scheme in the Northern Emirates. The target is to triple the value of the group as a whole by 2028. In recognition of its commitment to excellence, Tumbai Hospitals recently received the 'JCI Enterprise Accreditation' from the Joint Commission International, a prestigious designation given to only a select few healthcare groups worldwide.

Future plans include setting up a Tumbai Incubator Hub and a state-of-the-art Tumbai College of Veterinary Medicine next year. In addition, the group aims to expand its global presence through the establishment of strategic management contracts for Tumbai Medical University, healthcare centres, and hospitals. Thumbay Moideen said that the dream is to increase the business five times within five years.
