Sheikh Abdullah highlights UAE’s leading role in global humanitarian efforts

On the occasion of World Humanitarian Day, Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, emphasized the UAE's deep-rooted values of philanthropy and solidarity.

In a message posted on X, he said, "The values of philanthropy and human solidarity are deeply rooted in the UAE’s legacy," recognizing the country's commitment to global humanitarian efforts.

The annual date, observed on August 19, honours the work of humanitarian agencies, marking the 2003 suicide bombing in Baghdad that claimed the lives of 22 individuals, including UN commissioner Sergio Vieira de Mello.

Sheikh Abdullah reiterated, “We believe that humanitarian work is a noble endeavour that reflects our belief in building a more prosperous and dignified world for all humanity”.

He highlighted the UAE's history of promoting human solidarity, citing the nation’s assistance in Gaza, Sudan and its mediation in Ukraine-Russia prisoner exchanges.

Sheikh Abdullah also said, "The multitude of humanitarian crises today require co-ordination and unification of endeavours”.

Sheikh Abdullah bin Mohammed Al Hamed, Chairman of the National Media Office, echoed these sentiments, stating that under the leadership of Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed, the UAE has become a global leader in humanitarian work.

He stressed that UAE citizens are guided by a belief in “peace, stability, dignity, justice and equality for all people”.
