Indian Haj Committee raises airfare by Rs10,000 for pilgrims

The Haj Committee of India has asked pilgrims selected for Haj 2026 to pay an additional Rs10,000 towards airfare, following a revision linked to rising fuel costs and the situation in the Middle East.

In a circular issued on April 28, the committee said the Ministry of Minority Affairs approved a one-time increase for charter flight operations. The revised fare includes an extra charge of $100 per pilgrim, regardless of departure city.

Airlines had requested a base fare increase of more than $400, citing higher Aviation Turbine Fuel prices tied to regional conditions. The committee said the request was reviewed before a final decision was taken in consultation with relevant parties.

Pilgrims have been asked to pay the additional amount by May 15, 2026.

Payments can be made online through the Haj Committee website or the Haj Suvidha app using credit cards, debit cards or net banking. The amount can also be deposited using a pay-in slip at branches of the State Bank of India or Union Bank of India.

The circular also directed State and Union Territory Haj Committees to inform pilgrims and ensure the revised fare is paid on time.
