US President Donald Trump on Tuesday said the American military is prepared for war with Iran if ongoing negotiations fail, while Tehran signalled it has readied new targets and strategies for a potential conflict.
“I expect to be bombing because I think that’s a better attitude to go in with. But we’re ready to go. The military is raring to go,” Trump said, adding that the US has replenished its weapons stockpiles.
“We’re loaded up. We have so much ammo,” he said in an interview, stressing that the US is in a strong negotiating position and unlikely to extend the current ceasefire.
A day earlier, Trump warned that if the truce expires without an agreement, “lots of bombs start going off.” The two-week ceasefire between the US and Iran is set to end on Wednesday.
Iran, meanwhile, has issued its own warning. According to Tasnim News Agency, Tehran is prepared for a new round of conflict and has developed “new surprises” for its adversaries.
The report said Iran has drawn up fresh target lists and carried out military movements in recent weeks, taking the possibility of renewed war seriously. Sources cited by the agency said Iran is ready to create “another hell” for US and Israeli forces if fighting resumes.
Despite the escalating rhetoric, both sides have indicated interest in continuing talks. A second round of negotiations is expected in Islamabad, with US Vice President JD Vance likely to attend. However, Iran has signalled it may skip the meeting, citing recent “provocative actions.”
Tensions remain high around the Strait of Hormuz, a critical global shipping route that has become central to the standoff, even as diplomatic efforts continue.
