Covid 19: KSA's Tawakkalna App exceeds 17 million users

Saudi's "Tawakkalna" Mobile App has surpassed a record number of 17 million (lakh) users within nine months of its launch. The official application was launched on May 11, 2020, by the Saudi Data and Artificial Intelligence Authority (SDAIA) with the assistance of the Ministry of Health to monitor the coronavirus situation and support international health efforts to combat the pandemic.

The Tawakkalna app includes high-performance health features and other services and is now known at national and regional levels, said Dr Abdullah bin Sharaf Al-Ghamdi, president of the SDAIA.

He added that the app had a key role in recording coronavirus cases in the initial stage of its spread.

Al-Ghamdi urged people to utilize the app as it has become more necessary amidst the spread of new variants. The SDAIA chief praised the awareness of residents and citizens of the Kingdom for downloading and utilizing the app as part of the efforts to curb the spread. He said the application is expected to witness a gradual increase in the next few days as there has been a steady upsurge in the number of users.

Presently, it is mandatory to activate the app upon entry into government and private offices to verify one's health status. It has also been made compulsory for residents in several regions from the start of February.
