Saudi Arabia is about to get a women's health app that will track the users' body metrics with the goal of promoting their well-being. This is a new addition to the Kingdom's rapidly growing health tech sector.
The IMC women's health app will launch on November 1. Creators say that it is not just a dieting and fitness tracker. It tracks information related to gynaecology, PCOS, fertility, hormones, menstrual cycle, ovulation, and wellness, reported Arab News.
The app has features that allow women to predict their fertility, record and tract symptoms, and monitor contraception. Users can also keep an eye on blood pressure, blood sugar, and medication.
Farhaa Abdelhaq, design and analysis in-charge of the app, told Arab News that the company focuses on wellness. It connects to their vision of healing the mind, body, soul by taking a holistic approach. She also pointed out that women have a longer life expectancy than men, but it does not equate to better health. "The goal is to cater to women's special needs and give them more information without visiting the doctor all the time."
The app is available in both Arabic and English. It can be downloaded from Apple App Store and Google Play. Initially, it will be released to patients at the International Medical Center Hospital in Jeddah to assess feedback.
Femtech, technology dedicated to women's health, is a rapidly growing sector and the IMC women's health app is the first of its kind in Saudi Arabia.
Abdelhaq said women are primary decision-makers when it comes to health care, but they have so little information and are often misunderstood. Digital tools catering to health care can play an important role for Kingdom's women when travel arrangements and religious duties are considered.
