Saudi Government ensures food security despite global crises, says M.A. Yusuff Ali

Lulu Group Chairman M.A. Yusuff Ali said Saudi Arabia has maintained strong food security during global crises, crediting government support for ensuring steady supplies across the Kingdom.

He made the remarks in Riyadh during the launch of “Lulu Minutes,” a rapid delivery service designed to provide customers with essential goods within minutes using digital tools and artificial intelligence. The service is currently operating in major cities, including the capital.

Yusuff Ali said Saudi authorities took early and direct steps during past global disruptions to prevent shortages. He noted that the government arranged dedicated aircraft and allowed the use of Saudi Airlines to transport food supplies from multiple countries, including India, ensuring uninterrupted imports of fresh produce.

He said government officials maintained close contact with businesses, often asking how they could assist traders, which helped maintain confidence in the sector.

The chairman added that expatriates remained in the Kingdom during difficult periods due to confidence in safety and stability. He said there were no shortages of food, water or electricity and that government support extended equally to citizens and residents.

He also referred to measures taken during the Covid-19 pandemic, including free vaccines and medical treatment, which he said reinforced trust in public services.

Yusuff Ali said Lulu Group continues to align its operations with Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030, with the launch of Lulu Minutes reflecting a shift towards digital services.

He highlighted the company’s workforce in the Kingdom, noting that it employs around 4,000 Saudi nationals, including 2,100 women.

The group is also expanding its presence, with 20 projects under development across Saudi Arabia, including initiatives linked to the Riyadh Metro.

Yusuff Ali said the region is positioned for further economic growth under GCC leadership, adding that it remains resilient despite global economic challenges.
