Saudi Arabia tests Hajj transport system with 1.2 million virtual pilgrims

Saudi Arabia’s General Transport Center has carried out a large-scale virtual simulation of transport operations in the Holy Sites ahead of the Hajj season 1447 AH, in co-ordination with more than 24 government and operational entities.

The exercise modelled the movement of pilgrims between Makkah and the Holy Sites using 3,000 buses across five operational phases and 15 main routes to assess traffic flow and crowd management.

Officials said the simulation covered the transport of more than 1.2 million virtual pilgrims through over 75,000 planned trips, involving more than 20,500 personnel and 74 transport companies.

The drill included field execution of all stages, beginning with readiness and preparation, followed by movement to Arafat, transfer to Muzdalifah and final transport to Mina.

Authorities said the exercise was designed to test system readiness under different conditions and measure operational performance across the network.

The initiative also aimed to strengthen co-ordination among participating entities and support planning for high-density crowd movement during the Hajj season.
