The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has been elected to chair the International Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions (INTOSAI). The announcement was made during the 25th General Assembly of INTOSAI, held in Sharm El-Sheikh under the patronage of Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi.
Saudi Arabia, represented by the General Court of Audit (GCA), will assume the chairmanship in 2031 for a three-year term. The role was granted by the INTOSAI General Assembly.
The country will host delegations from more than 195 nations, led by the heads of supreme audit institutions. These delegations will participate in meetings under Saudi leadership.
Through this position, Saudi Arabia will lead international efforts in financial and performance auditing. The role is intended to strengthen transparency, public sector governance and government performance.
The GCA stated that the leadership of Saudi Arabia aims to reinforce public trust in national economies through enhanced auditing standards.
GCA President Dr. Hussam Alangari extended his congratulations to King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud. He expressed appreciation for their continued support of the GCA.
Alangari said the appointment reflects the Kingdom’s international standing and the trust it has earned globally. He added that Saudi Arabia will play a central role in promoting auditing and accountability worldwide.
He also cited recent advancements made by the GCA in organizational independence, human and technical capacity and methodological innovation. These developments, he said, helped the institution achieve its goals of effective auditing and improved quality of life for citizens.
Alangari confirmed that Saudi Arabia looks forward to welcoming participants to Riyadh in 2031. He said the Kingdom aims to shape a future focused on transparency, governance and government effectiveness.
The GCA noted that the selection crowns decades of Saudi involvement in INTOSAI. The Kingdom has been a member of the organization since 1977.
Saudi Arabia has maintained leadership roles in regional and international audit bodies. It has chaired the Arab Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions (ARABOSAI) since 2022 for two consecutive terms.
The Kingdom is also set to chair the Asian Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions (ASOSAI) beginning in 2027.
GCA has led several INTOSAI committees and initiatives aimed at capacity building and improving the performance of audit institutions in developing countries.
INTOSAI, established more than 70 years ago, is the world’s largest international body of supreme audit institutions. It includes over 195 member countries.
Each member institution focuses on strengthening transparency, governance and public sector auditing.
