Saudi Arabia calls Israel’s synagogue Proposal at Al-Aqsa a global Muslim provocation

Saudi Arabia has condemned recent remarks made by Israeli Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir, who advocated for the construction of a synagogue at the Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem.

The Saudi foreign ministry issued a statement early Tuesday denouncing the minister's comments, describing them as extremist and provocative. The remarks have heightened tensions amidst ongoing ceasefire negotiations aimed at halting the conflict in Gaza.

Ben-Gvir's statements, made during an interview, have drawn sharp criticism for exacerbating regional unrest. In response, Saudi Arabia has emphasised the importance of respecting the historical and legal status of the Al-Aqsa Mosque.

The Kingdom has also called upon the international community to address the Palestinian humanitarian crisis and implement effective measures to hold Israeli officials accountable for violations of international laws and norms.
