OIC condemns Houthi attacks on Makkah and Madinah region

The Organization of Islamic Cooperation has condemned Houthi attacks targeting Makkah and the Madinah region, as well as continuing attacks against Saudi Arabia.

The OIC General Secretariat said in a statement that the attacks frightened civilians, violated the sanctity of holy sites and mosques, and provoked Muslims around the world.

It described attacks against holy sites, mosques and civilian infrastructure as acts of terrorism that contradicted Islamic values and breached international norms, principles and law.

The organisation said any violation of the sanctity of holy sites was unacceptable and could not be tolerated.

It called for those responsible to be deterred and for action to prevent further attempts to target the sites.

The OIC expressed full solidarity with Saudi Arabia and supported measures taken by the kingdom to deter attacks.

It also backed Saudi efforts to preserve the sanctity of holy sites, protect the lives of Muslims and defend the kingdom’s security and sovereignty.
