The Embassy of India in Riyadh commemorated India’s 80th Independence Day on August 15 with enthusiastic participation from approximately one thousand attendees, including members of the Indian community, media representatives, and friends of India in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
The morning's proceedings commenced with the rendition of the national song, Vande Mataram. Ambassador Vipul then hoisted the Tricolour, followed by the singing of the National Anthem. Continuing the solemn traditions of the day, the Ambassador paid floral tributes at the bust of Mahatma Gandhi and read out the address delivered by the President of India to the nation and the global Indian diaspora.
In his keynote address, Ambassador Vipul emphasized the robust and wide-ranging bilateral ties shared by India and Saudi Arabia, acknowledging the vital contributions of the Indian diaspora in solidifying this enduring partnership.
The formal address preceded a vibrant cultural showcase presented by members of the local Indian community, highlighting the nation's rich heritage through classical dance performances and patriotic music. Special segments also commemorated the 150th anniversary of Vande Mataram. Concluding the ceremony, Ambassador Vipul presented certificates of appreciation to the performers alongside awards to the winners of the Bharat Ko Janiye Quiz, before engaging directly with members of the community.
As part of the nationwide Har Ghar Tiranga campaign, the flag-hoisting ceremony also marked the Embassy’s participation in “Suryapath Tiranga”, a global flag-hoisting relay tracking the sun's movement from East to West to symbolize the worldwide unity and enduring connections of the Indian diaspora.
