Houthi attack on Saudi Arabia: school damaged, Asian man injured

Abha: A ballistic missile launched by the Houthis and intercepted over Ahad Rufaidah in Saudi Arabia’s southern Asir region left an Asian man injured after falling debris struck him, according to the Civil Defence.

The missile was intercepted on Friday after being launched towards Ahad Rufaidah, the Civil Defence spokesperson said. Debris from the destroyed projectile damaged a prayer hall inside a building and several vehicles in the area.

The Civil Defence said the Houthi group continues to carry out attacks targeting civilians and vital infrastructure. Authorities, in coordination with relevant agencies, have taken necessary measures to ensure the safety of residents and address the damage caused by the incident.

The attacks were not limited to Ahad Rufaidah. On Friday, October 2, 2026, the Civil Defence reported that the Houthis also targeted a school in the city of Najran. A projectile launched by the group struck the school, causing material damage.

Meanwhile, Brigadier General Turki Al-Malki, official spokesperson for the coalition forces in Yemen, said three ballistic missiles launched by the Houthis towards Khamis Mushait had been intercepted and destroyed.

The coalition spokesperson described the latest attacks as part of the Houthis’ continued targeting of civilians and civilian property. The incidents have added to a series of attacks involving projectiles directed towards populated areas in southern Saudi Arabia.

Authorities said measures were being taken to protect residents and deal with the damage resulting from the attacks, while the Civil Defence reiterated that the Houthi group continues to target civilians and critical infrastructure.
