Muscat international airport implements new boarding rules

Muscat International Airport in Oman has announced stricter rules for passengers travelling to or via the country, effective August 4, 2024. These changes involve adjustments to the timings in the boarding pass system (PBS) area, located after the check-in counters and before passport control.

Under the new rules, passengers will not be allowed to pass through the PBS checkpoint less than 40 minutes before the scheduled departure time. Meanwhile, departure gates will continue to close 20 minutes before the departure time, as was previously the practice.

The airport released a notice informing travellers of these changes, stating that they have been implemented "to ensure smooth processing of procedures as well as the timely departure of flights." The adjusted timing aims to facilitate more efficient completion of passport control and security checks.

Travellers are advised to adhere to the new rules to ensure a smooth journey.

Oman Air, the Sultanate's local airline, also issued a notice following the airport's announcement, reiterating that "check-in procedures remain unchanged and will close 60 minutes before flight departure time."
