Limited flights resume in Dubai and Abu Dhabi as Gulf airspace gradually reopens

Limited flight operations are set to resume from Dubai and Abu Dhabi on Monday evening after days of disruption caused by escalating tensions between Israel and Iran.

The Dubai government’s media office said Flydubai will operate a limited number of flights from the evening of March 2 and advised passengers to check their booking status before heading to the airport. Emirates also announced it would restart a small number of services while prioritising passengers with earlier bookings. The airline said most other operations remain suspended until further notice and urged customers not to travel to the airport unless notified.

In Abu Dhabi, authorities said operations had partially resumed. At least 15 Etihad Airways passenger aircraft departed within a three-hour window, likely to clear transit passengers stranded since the conflict began.

The Indian Aviation Ministry said 357 flights scheduled for the day were cancelled.

Air India Express said it will resume operations to and from Muscat from March 3, with services connecting Muscat to Delhi, Kochi, Kozhikode, Mangaluru, Mumbai, and Tiruchirappalli. The first flight from Muscat will depart for Tiruchirappalli at 10:25 local time. However, flights to Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE remain suspended until 23:59 hrs IST on March 3.

The reopening follows Iranian strikes on Dubai International Airport, which was hit twice during the conflict. Four people were injured in the attacks, and one death linked to an airport facility incident was reported in Abu Dhabi. The UAE had partially closed its airspace on Saturday, leading to widespread cancellations and leaving lakhs of travellers stranded across Gulf airports.
