Kuwait Cabinet expresses solidarity with UAE, reviews regional security developments

Kuwait’s Cabinet on Wednesday praised UAE security authorities for dismantling a terrorist cell accused of activities aimed at undermining national unity. The Cabinet stated its rejection of terrorism and extremism while expressing full support for the UAE.

The remarks came during the Cabinet’s weekly meeting chaired by Prime Minister Sheikh Ahmad Abdullah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah. Following the session, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs Shereedah Al-Maousherji outlined the outcomes.

At the start of the meeting, ministers were briefed on a written message sent to Amir Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah from UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer. The message was delivered to the Prime Minister by UK Deputy Prime Minister and Justice Secretary David Lammy during a recent visit to Kuwait. It addressed bilateral relations, ways to strengthen cooperation and regional and international developments.

Defense Minister Sheikh Abdullah Ali Abdullah Al-Salem Al-Sabah then presented an update on regional developments and the military situation following recent Iranian attacks on Kuwait. He said army explosive ordnance disposal teams were dealing with shrapnel remnants and unexploded ordnance during a ceasefire period, adding that sounds of explosions reported in some areas were linked to these operations.

Foreign Minister Sheikh Jarrah Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah briefed ministers on diplomatic efforts carried out by Kuwait’s missions abroad in response to recent developments. He also reported on visits to Bahrain, where he met King Hamad bin Isa Al-Khalifa and Foreign Minister Abdullatif Al-Zayani, and to Egypt, where he held talks with President Abdulfattah Al-Sisi and Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty. He further outlined a series of phone calls with counterparts from other countries on regional issues.

The Cabinet welcomed an announcement by US President Donald Trump of a ceasefire in Lebanon last Friday and commended efforts by Lebanese President Joseph Aoun. It reiterated support for Lebanon in maintaining state authority and stability.

Ministers also condemned an attack targeting the French contingent of the UN Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), which left one person dead and several injured. The Cabinet called for those responsible to be held accountable and reaffirmed support for the UN mission.

The Cabinet reviewed reports from ministers and government bodies on measures taken to raise readiness levels to ensure the safety of citizens and residents and to secure essential supplies amid ongoing military and security developments.

It urged the public to rely on official sources for information and warned against spreading rumors or unverified reports, stating that legal action would be taken against violators to maintain public order.

The Cabinet also mourned former Justice Minister Ghazi Obaid Al-Sammar, citing his service to the country.

Several agenda items were approved, while others were referred to ministerial committees for further study. The Cabinet said it would remain in continuous session to monitor developments at both the domestic and regional levels.
