Kremlin denies reports of Bashar al-Assad's wife seeking divorce

The Kremlin dismissed recent Turkish media claims about the Assad family and Bashar al-Assad's wife seeking divorce, calling the reports unfounded.

Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov on Monday refuted allegations suggesting that Asma al-Assad, the British-born wife of former Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, had sought a divorce and intended to leave Russia, reported Reuters.

“These reports do not correspond to reality,” Peskov stated during a press briefing, addressing rumors circulating in Turkish and Arabic media.

The reports also alleged that Bashar al-Assad had been confined to Moscow with his assets frozen after rebels made significant advances in Damascus, leading to the Assad family being granted asylum in Russia earlier this month. Peskov categorically rejected these claims as well.

The Kremlin's firm denial comes amid heightened speculation regarding the Assad family's position following developments in the Syrian conflict. However, no evidence has been presented to support the media claims, and the Assad family has not publicly commented on the situation.
