Israeli air strikes on Gazan refugee tents kill 11, wound 50

Rafah: After an air attack on a refugee tent housing in Rafah by Israel, at least 11 people were killed and 50 wounded. The attack forced the displacement of those who remained near the entrance of a hospital there, Al Jazeera reported, citing the Gazan health ministry.

Further, at least 17 more were killed in air strikes that targeted three houses in Deir el-Balah and Jabalia. Also, dozens were wounded here. In a Thursday attack, a United Nations team found many injured in gunshots while waiting for food aid. The injured were hospitalized, and the director of al-Awda Hospital says 80 per cent of the wounded brought there were shot.

In the incident, refugees who were queuing for food were massacred, and the death toll reached 116 after three more dead bodies were recovered. Here, around 760 were wounded. The deadly attack was on thousands gathered near the city of Gaza on Thursday, waiting for food. Hamas-led administration in Gaza states that the number of wounded is expected to increase since there are many whose injuries are grave and the situation lacks medical capabilities.

The prolonged war in Gaza has inflicted severe hardships on Gazan women, highlighting the dire humanitarian situation they face. Despite the indiscriminate nature of the war, UN Women data reveals that women are disproportionately affected, suffering unprecedented levels of casualties and injuries. Nine thousand women have tragically lost their lives at the hands of Israeli forces, with many more feared dead and buried under the rubble.

So far, around 30,320 people have been killed and 71,533 wounded in Israeli attacks on Gaza since October 7. Meanwhile, deaths in Israel following Hamas attacks there reached 1,139.
