First brain surgery to treat depression successful in Saudi Arabia

Jeddah: A specialized medical team at King Salman Medical City in Madinah has succeeded in brain surgery to treat chronic depression, the Saudi Gazette reports. The patient was suffering from severe symptoms of depression and anxiety for over 25 years.

The medical team consisting of neurosurgeons and psychiatrists was formed to examine the case and carry out the surgical intervention. The team performed bilateral anterior gyrus resection under full anesthesia, which was successful without any complications. According to the report, the patient's sleep hours returned to normal, and he moved away from permanent sadness, anxiety, and excessive thinking about death.
