People are at a higher risk of developing blood clots from Covid-19 than vaccines, said a UK study.
Researchers have concluded the unvaccinated people are nine times more likely to have low levels of platelets than those who have received the first dose of the vaccine.
A new study published in the British Medical Journal, the largest of its kind, has found that 66 people in every 10 million people who received the first dose of AstraZeneca are suffering from blood clotting syndrome. On the other hand, 12,614 Covid-19 patients have reported the same problem, reported Bloomberg.
Scientists followed 29 million people who had received the first dose of either AstraZeneca or Pfizer vaccine between December 2020 and April. The findings support the decision to continue vaccination using AstraZeneca's vaccine.
Aziz Sheikh, a co-author of the study, said that the study noted the increased likelihood of the disorder and underscores the importance of getting vaccinated to reduce the risk, said the Bloomberg report.
The study did not establish whether the blood clots were caused by the vaccines but regulators have identified a possible link.
