Mali woman delivers 9 babies against expected 7: Report

A Mali woman joined a pantheon of mothers of nonuplets by delivering nine babies, contradicting doctors' expectation of seven that were found inside her womb.

Ultrasound scans conducted in Morocco and Mali were said to have missed two babies, giving astonishment to the 25-year-old Halima Cisse, who was expecting seven babies.

It was upon the interest of the national leaders who got attracted to her pregnancy carrying seven babies that her delivery was carried out in Morocco, where she gave birth to five girls and four boys in caesarean section.

Reports suggested that the mother and the babies are doing well.

Nonuplets are extremely rare. Medical complications in multiple births of this kind often mean that some of the babies do not survive.
