Increased risk of diabetes in COVID recovered patients

After recovering from COVID-19, it is reported that several patients are developing other diseases. The most important one of these is diabetes. The number of people suffering from diabetes after COVID19 has increased significantly.

Just like how the corona virus is attacking other parts of the body, it is infecting pancreatitis as well. This has led to a decline in the production of insulin by the endocrine glands and thereby increasing the level of sugar in the blood.

"There is an increased risk of diabetes in critical patients who are infected with the virus. The mental stress caused during the COVID recovery treatment has also led to an increase in diabetes," says V.K. Shameer, Professor, Department of Medicine, Calicut Medical College

"There are also reports of non-diabetic patients diagnosed with diabetes after getting infected from COVID19. Both of these conditions have become common in patients visiting the hospital."

According to preliminary conclusions, experts have reported that unlike gestational diabetes, post-COVID diabetes appears to have not recovered after a certain period. However, one need not panic that all those who have been infected with COVID-19 will get diabetes. Those who are healthy are less likely to get diabetes.

Whereas, experts have pointed out that this condition is more common in people who are fatally infected with this virus.
