New Delhi: India will enforce a temporary ban on all flights from the United Kingdom in a bid to stop the spread of a new and more infectious COVID-19 variant. The ban was announced just after 5 passengers on a flight from the UK to Delhi tested positive for COVID-19 on Monday night.
A Nodal Officer for COVID-19 In New Delhi revealed that the passenger's samples had been sent to the National Center for Disease Control (NCD) for examination. So far, virology experts in India have said that they have not encountered the new variant in the population.
A total of 266 people, including cabin crew were present on the flight. The ban on flights will extend from midnight on Tuesday to 31st December.
