Thiruvananthapuram: A couple in Kerala’s Pathanamthitta district have been arrested for brutally torturing and robbing two people after luring them to their home.
On Friday, Aranmula area police arrested Malayil Veetil Jayesh, 30, and his wife Reshmi, 25, both from Koipuram village, The India Express reported.
The incident came to light after police registered a case when a 29-year-old man alleged that he was assaulted by his girlfriend’s family.
While seeking more details police found gaps in his statement which led officers to discover the involvement of the couple.
Torturing him, the couple threatened him to make up a story about being beaten up by his girlfriend’s family, Police said.
Subsequently, police found that the couple had similarly tortured a 19-year-old.
Both victims, being friends with the couple, worked with Jayesh in Bengaluru and Reshmi had maintained a relationship with the two men, which Jayesh discovered from her WhatsApp chat with them.
Furious over her relationship, Jayesh planned to take revenge on the two men alongside having his wife involved in the plan.
Police revealed that the couple robbed two men with one of them losing Rs 20,000 alongside subjecting them to heinous torture in a perverted manner.
‘The victims feared that the couple were performing black magic on them. However, the real motive of the couple has to be ascertained after detailed questioning,’ said a police source.
Pathanamthitta district Superintendent of Police R Anand said probe was in initial stage as they were looking if the accused committed more similar crimes, adding that ‘ A detailed scientific probe is required as the accused are not cooperating with the police’.
Revealing gruesome details of the incident, the 29-year-old victim told the police that on Onam, September 5, he reached the couple’s house after Jayesh invited him. But Jayesh greeted him with pepper spray and began to thrash him.
‘Both my hands were tied and I was hung from a wooden pole overhead. Reshmi brutally attacked me with various objects, including iron rods,’ the statement to the police reportedly said.
He said that Jayesh recorded on his mobile phone as Remshi attacked him, adding that ‘My privates were stapled several times’.
At about 8 pm that day the couple took him on Jayesh’s bike placing him between them and abandoned him at Puthumon.
They threatened him to tell others that he was attacked by the family of the girl he was in love with.
The couple tortured another man, a 19-year-old from Alappuzha, in the same manner on September 1; the man kept the incident to himself.
Based on the details given by the couple, police traced the victim who was invited to the couple’s house before he was tortured.
Jayesh picked him up on a two-wheeler from the Maramon area on September 1.
At his house, Jayesh stripped him before torturing him alongside forcing him to form sexual acts on Reshmi, which he filmed.
Tying up both his hands, the man was hung by the same shawl from wooden beam on the ceiling, the man revealed. Alongside beating him up, they pulled his fingers with pliers.
The couple, then, snatched Rs 20,000 from his wallet but returned Rs 1,000 for his travel expenses, according to the police.
