Trapped whistle pulled out of woman's windpipe after 25 years

Payyanur: A whistle was taken out of a forty-year-old woman's windpipe, which she swallowed accidentally, 25 years ago. The Kannur Govt. Medical College performed a bronchoscopy to take the whistle out.

The lady, a native of Mattannur, was astonished when she found out that the whistle she swallowed was trapped inside her breathing system for this long.

She was suffering from chronic cough for years, and when she consulted Dr Jaffer, a pulmonologist, he referred her to the pulmonology department of Kannur medical college. A foreign object was found trapped in her windpipe in a CT scan, leading to the bronchoscopy. It was conducted by a team under the medical college pulmonologist Dr Rajeev Ram's supervision.

She recalled the incident in her teenage only when she was asked about the whistle. She believed that her problem was asthma and was under treatment for that. Now she is happy that her cough and related difficulties left her with the old whistle. She thanked Dr Rajeev Ram and his team before leaving the hospital.
