Shashi Tharoor predicts BJP’s emergence as single largest party in Lok Sabha polls

Suggesting a possible twist in the outcome, senior Congress leader and MP Shashi Tharoor suggested the emergence of the BJP as the single largest party in the upcoming 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

During a session at the Kerala Literature Festival (KLF) held on the Kozhikode beach Tharoor, however, added a strategic twist, stating, "I strongly feel they can be brought down to a level where several potential allies may not want to join them."

Addressing the challenges within the INDIA bloc, Tharoor hoped for widespread seat-sharing arrangements among its members to prevent avoidable defeats. He emphasized that while complete agreement might be challenging, regional considerations should take precedence to ensure effective representation.

Drawing on examples from Kerala and Tamil Nadu, the seasoned politician highlighted the diverse dynamics within the INDIA bloc. In Kerala, Tharoor noted the difficulty in imagining a seat-sharing agreement between the CP(M) and Congress, whereas in Tamil Nadu, he pointed out the harmonious alliance of CPI, CP(M), Congress, and DMK.

Tharoor stressed the importance of voters choosing the best candidate from their constituency, regardless of broader political affiliations. "People need to think about who will be good for their region if they want an effective administrator," he said.

As discussions around the 2024 elections gain momentum, Tharoor's insights into potential political realignments and the importance of regional dynamics are likely to fuel further speculation within the political landscape.
