Wayanad: The protest against the punishment of transferring five government school teachers from Changanassery to the districts of Kozhikode, Wayanad, and Kannur in Malabar is becoming more intense. Wayanad schools received three of them as transfers.
The president of the Wayanad district panchayat, Samshad Marakkar, stated that Wayanad cannot be turned into a facility for the rehabilitation of people who are being disciplined. In a letter to the General Education Minister, he asked that the decision be rescinded. Student organisations that have voiced their opposition include MSF and KSU.
In accordance with the directive, the English teacher has been transferred to Kallur Government High School, the Botany teacher to Neervaram Government High School, and the Hindi teacher to Perikkalloor Government HSS in the Wayanad district, the New Indian Express reported.
The Physics teacher has been moved to Beypore Government HSS in Kozhikode, and the Commerce instructor has been relocated to Vellur Government HSS in the Kannur district. The Kottayam Regional Deputy Director visited the school gathered statements from parents and students, and then wrote a report, which served as the basis for the action.
The instructors are accused of treating students unfairly, giving students unintelligible lectures, and failing to give them grades that reflect their abilities. The instructors' alleged habit of sleeping off during work hours was another grievance.
The five teachers who were moved to Malabar in the meantime told the RDD that the accusations were untrue and were intended as retaliation for their support of CCTV cameras being installed in classrooms.
The PTA president of Perikkalloor Government HSS in Wayanad, Gireesh S, said, “The attitude of higher officials while issuing punishment transfers to Malabar is unacceptable. We demand action against the teachers based on the complaints or investigation.”
At the same time, Beypore GHSS PTA President Sunil indicated that the school is prepared to accept the teachers assigned as part of punishment transfers and that it won't have an impact on the standard of instruction provided.
