Chandy remarked that the move is a clearly politically motivated case borne out of a vindictive urge by the present government. Neither his party nor he himself are afraid of the probe, he added.
The case pertains to a complaint by a woman towards the end of the previous Oommen Chandy cabinet term. The police complaint alleged sexual exploitation by senior Congress leaders in return for offer of contrats to be awarded for installation of solar panels in government establishments. The case had been the centre of debates in the state for weeks on end and the current ruling front had used it as their main weapon of political campaigning.
The former chief minister said that the timing of the recommendation for CBI enquiry itself is proof of its political motive, and the LDF wants it to influence the upcoming assembly polls. He also pointed out that despite three police enquiries at the DGP level, no evidence could substantiate the charges.
