Malappuram: In a heart-warming display of communal harmony, the Muslim Youth League, the youth wing of the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML), organised a Hindu wedding at a temple in Malappuram district's Vengara.

The union between Geethu and Vishnu was celebrated with great joy and fervour at the Ammancheri Bhagavati Temple in the presence of individuals from various political parties and religious backgrounds.

Geethu, a college student hailing from Palakkad, had found solace at the Rose Manor Short Stay home in Vengara, a facility managed by the Mujahid Education Trust. The home serves as a safe haven for women and girls facing distress, including victims of exploitation, trafficking, marital disharmony, unwed mothers, and those experiencing familial discord.

However, due to the cessation of grants from the state government, the home faced financial challenges.

Witnessing the plight of Geethu and her family, the Muslim Youth League stepped forward to support their cause. Not only did they extend financial assistance, but they also took the responsibility of arranging suitable alliances for Geethu and her sister, Girija. In September 2022, with the help of the Youth League ward committee, Girija married Rakesh, a native of Edayoor in Malappuram.

Building upon their commitment to fostering unity, the Youth League continued their benevolent efforts by organizing Geethu's wedding with Vishnu. The Youth League committee took care of the financial and logistical requirements, ensuring a memorable celebration of love and harmony.

The event drew attendees from various political affiliations, including leaders from the IUML, Communist Party of India (Marxist), and the Congress, as well as several local residents and well-wishers. The gathering included prominent figures such as Sadiq Ali Thangal and PK Kunhalikutty from the IUML.

Expressing his admiration for the initiative, PK Kunhalikutty remarked, "The Muslim League workers of Vengara planned, decided, and conducted the wedding of Geeta, who came to Rose Manor with her mother and sister years ago. The temple committee wholeheartedly supported the event, and the entire region united in love and support, transcending party politics." He emphasized that the unity displayed at the temple courtyard conveyed a powerful message of harmony and goodwill that deserved emulation.

IUML general secretary PMA Salam emphasized that this event exemplified the true spirit of Malappuram. He denounced attempts to malign the district, stating that those who truly knew and understood Malappuram were aware of the falsity of such campaigns.
