Malappuram: Former Supreme Court judge, Markandeya Katju, voiced his strong disapproval of the Kerala government's inaction in solving the acute shortage of plus-one seats in the Malappuram constituency during a felicitation ceremony for high-achieving students.
Addressing the gathering of students and dignitaries, Katju emphasized the urgent need for the government to provide adequate higher education facilities for aspiring doctors and engineers, warning that failure to resolve the crisis could have severe consequences.
The predicament stems from a significant disparity between the number of 10th-class passers and the available plus-one seats within the district. This discrepancy has left numerous ambitious students without the opportunity to pursue their dreams, instilling a sense of disillusionment and hindering their future prospects.
Katju lamented the situation, asserting that it is the government's responsibility to ensure access to quality education for all students, irrespective of their background or circumstances.
Expressing his disappointment, Katju called upon Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and Legislative Assembly Speaker A.N. Shamseer urging them to address the issue promptly.
Questioning the protracted delay in finding a resolution, he accused the government of committing a grave injustice against the children of Malappuram. Katju conveyed his concerns directly to the Assembly Speaker, emphasizing that if no decisive action is taken, he will actively campaign against the ruling party in the upcoming elections.
The felicitation ceremony, attended by legislative assembly member Shamseer as the inaugural function, witnessed an overwhelming response from the audience, with the students expressing their solidarity with Katju's impassioned speech through resounding applause.
The former Supreme Court judge's words resonated deeply with those affected by the educational crisis, highlighting the urgency for swift action and reform.
