Kerala youth who posed as RAW officer held in Karnataka

Bengaluru: A nursing student has been arrested by Karnataka Police on Monday for posing as an Indian intelligence agency Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) officer.

The accused, identified as Idukki resident Benedict Sabu (24), was arrested while trying to extract information from senior officers during a drug addiction awareness program.

Benedict claimed to be a field officer and Sub-Inspector attached to the RAW.

The police have recovered fake IDs, mobile, and laptop and are seriously looking into why he was collecting information. The accused had also possessed another fake ID claiming himself as the Assistant Agriculture Development Officer.

Police said the accused was studying General Nursing and Midwifery (GNM) course at Unity College in Mangaluru.

The accused after introducing himself as the RAW field agent interacted with senior police officers and others attached to different investigating agencies. While interacting, the officers grew suspicious of him and informed the police.

The jurisdictional Urva police took him to the police station and grilled him.

The initial probe revealed that he attended all the government programs and gathered information regarding the same. The police are looking into whether the accused was misusing the information. Further investigation is going on.
