Kerala running car burning: bottles of petrol fuelled fire, says MVD

Kannur/Kerala: In the unfortunate incident of a running car catching fire, killing a pregnant lady and her husband, the Motor Vehicle Department (MVD) released its findings. The department inferred that two bottles of petrol stored in the car caused the quick spread of the fire.

The 2020 model Maruti Suzuki S-Presso was extra fitted with a camera, monitoring screen and a stereo box, the department’s preliminary investigation suggested. It is believed that the vehicle caught fire due to a short circuit. Improper insulation while adding the additional gadgets might have caused the short circuit, the department said.

The car caught fire near the District Government hospital in Kannur when the pregnant woman was being taken to the hospital. The woman and her husband were charred to death on the spot after being trapped inside the burning car. Of the six persons travelling in the car, four of them seated in the rear seat escaped after the onlookers alerted them and helped them get out of the car. The couple was unable to open the front doors failing to escape. The bystanders were shocked to witness the sight of the couple getting burnt alive right before their eyes. Even though the Fire and Rescue Department officials reached the spot and doused the flames, they couldn’t save the couple.
