Kochi: The Kerala High Court on Wednesday stayed the arrest of Bollywood actor Sunny Leone, her husband Daniel Weber and a top official of their production house in a cheating case registered against them for failing to turn up at an event, The Hindu reported.

The actor and other accused had filed a pre-arrest bail plea fearing arrest in the case.

While considering the plea filed by the actor, Justice Ashok Menon directed that they should not be arrested till notice of their appearance under Section 41A of the Code of Criminal Procedure is issued to them.

On a complaint lodged by Shiyas Kunhumuhammed of Perumbavoor, the Crime Branch police station, Ernakulam, had registered an FIR against the actor and others on August 2, 2019 for offences under various sections on an allegation that they failed to perform a stage show as per an agreement after accepting Rs 39 lakhs as consideration.

The accused did not appear for the shows which was postponed by the complainant and failed to return the money.

The actor and others alleged that Shiyas was trying to get them arrested and challenged the power of the Crime Branch to investigate the case as the dispute among them was of a civil nature.
