Kerala Govt extends free food kits to migrant workers

Thiruvananthapuram: Soon after calling a statewide lockdown to control COVID spread, Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan announced the continuation of free food kits distribution this month. This time, migrant workers can also avail the food kits from ration shops across the state.

"Free food kit distribution will commence from next week," informed the Chief Minister while addressing the media after a COVID review meeting here on Friday.

In the present situation, vaccination of the 18-45 age group will not be completed at a stretch. Priority will be given to people with comorbidities. Members of ward level committees who are visiting COVID patients and those who are in quarantine will be considered as a priority group, said CM.

Travel pass will be issued to ward level committee members as they need to visit the patients during the lockdown period. Those who need to travel must obtain a travel pass from the police.

Training will be given to students and others for ensuring their participation in the COVID battle to counter the shortage of health workers.
