Kerala girl of 16 years becomes member of UK Youth Parliament

London: A 16-year-old Kerala girl became an elected member of the United Kingdom Youth Parliament. It is Amna Safa, a native of Kollam’s Kundara and daughter of Ansar and Umairath, who got elected from the Lothian division of Scotland. Currently, Amna is a member of the Scottish Youth Parliament and a member of the Education Sub-Committee.

In England, Wales, and Northern Ireland, members of the Youth Parliament are elected through general elections, and in Scotland, they are elected through a vote by members of the Scottish Youth Parliament.

Three hundred people between the ages of 11 and 18 who are permanent residents of the UK are elected as members through a vote from 203 constituencies and nominations from various groups. The annual meetings are organized at the House of Commons, the lower house of the UK Parliament.

Amna Safa is an S5 student at Firhill High School, Edinburgh. She has a younger brother, Adnan Ahmed, who is an S1 student at the same school.
