IUML nominates Supreme Court lawyer Haris Beeran to Rajya Sabha

Supreme Court advocate Haris Beeran has been nominated by the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) as its candidate for the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections in Kerala. This decision was announced by IUML Kerala president Sadiq Ali Shihab Thangal.

He represented the IUML on various petitions in the Supreme Court, including those concerning the Citizenship Amendment Act.

The Rajya Sabha elections in Kerala, scheduled for June 25, will see three seats up for contention as the terms of Elamaram Kareem (CPI-M), Binoy Viswom (CPI), and Jose K Mani (Kerala Congress) come to an end on July 1. The UDF had earlier decided to give the seat to the IUML.

With the Kerala Assembly's composition in mind, the CPI(M)-led Left Democratic Front (LDF) is poised to secure two seats, while the Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) will claim one.
